I read that most buildings in Florida have had water intrusion due to the many hurricanes and storms over the years and I would say also due to central air conditioning.

Older homes were built with CBS blocks, but newer homes use drywall inside, which is an ideal medium for mold growth. Not a builder, so I don’t know why the change, but it’s not a good choice imho. Probably easier and cheaper to just add drywall versus plastering walls, not quite sure.

We rarely need artificial heat but A/C is a must in South Florida, unless you want to swelter for 6 months of the year. Central A/C has it own unique set of problems, including leaks and mold growing in the ducts, which then circulates throughout the entire home!

Where can we live comfortably without artificial heat or A/C? That is where I want to be. As natural as possible!

I was feeling sick from the mold and it was visible on my clothing and shoes, purses, even after 2 remediations by my homeowner’s insurance (they cut some corners). I chose to walk away from all my belongings versus getting sick and risking getting my 2 daughters that were living with me and our dogs getting sick.

I ended up selling the home after paying high property taxes for 5 years, while not inhabiting the home. Sold the home at a financial loss, as is. The new owners knew they would have to take the home down to the studs.

I had a client whose parents stayed in a home with mold because her parents did not take it seriously. Her mother died of lung cancer 6 months later with no prior health concerns.

My eldest has a reactive rescue dog who is wonderful with us and my dog, but not with strangers and other dogs. It’s tough but we love him so. I understand! We have 4 rescues in the family.

Folks we need to open up our homes and provide decent under market rent. I have done this for 20+ years, had 20+ roomates, most could not pay market. Subvert the realty moneysucking paradigm with sharing any extra space you have if you are a homeowner, or do nothing and complain.

I agree.

I sold my home last year because of a mold issue that my homeowner’s insurance never remediated properly. I had not lived in it for five years due to the issue (in litigation) and I was continuing to pay exorbitant property taxes on it, so I sold it as is.

If I still had my home, I would definitely be taking in roommates and family members. Maybe we’re going to go back to living more in community like we used to.

I’m moving to a rental community that is pet friendly and very much has a community feel to it.

Thanks Myriam, for that...geez the molds are the worst...i learned about paying to keep the heat on to at least 60, or you start getting molds. I learned not to hate this natural thing, (happens outside too of course, less bad) when i started fermenting liquids a few years ago...I live in dampish western Oregon, Portland, from Michigan, and so have had to learn about the damp....yes its warmer here, OR, but sure is harder on the bones. 40F here is like 32F in Michigan...if its damp at all....Mold in walls is so tuff, my neighbors house is just like mine, but moldy smelling inside...she has been fighting it for 20 years, but I hate to say at some point tearing it down and starting over is the only way. Ah but I digress. Now I struggle with a home situation with a rescue dog, who is 10, and i sorta gotta wait till the dog is gone, before folks can come through as she is very unpredictable with all strangers...but I did share lots before that and hope to again, soon, soon when the poochie kicks the bucket....sad but true, what to do? She pays her rent by guarding very well, a bit too well. best

I have only just subscribed to your Substack as a result of a conversation on Bill Huston's silly post about Ivermectin.

I am British and would like to point out that all countries are suffering very similar pressures over housing. I submit to you that this is a top-down influence which is done deliberately to force migration and down-sizing on all of us. We are being herded into Smart Cities and away from the land which has been designated Wild Land by the UN Agendas 21 and 2030.

This momentum will not let up because it is deemed essential in the Sustainable Development Goals.

I wrote a translation of the SDGs in 2015 which may help you to understand why changes in rents and economics are happening:

Thank you, Frances.

I know its all part of the plan to destabilize the citizens of the world and destroy our economy.

I have a daughter who lives in DC and her rent has not been raised. All landlords are not doing this, despite the trend to do so.

I will read your Substack post. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
