I got directed here inadvertently by "Bert", but I just purchased one of their units and put it together the day before yesterday and being I live close to water supply, I'm glad I have this thing.
As a chemical engineer I'm a bit intrigued by the filter system, but two units were delivered with the unit and there could be four in it....anyhow, I'm happy with the purchase.
I got the big Berkey.....but you could make one of these on your own except for the filter element and I checked the prices on those....that is where the money is.....so I've seen videos how you could make you own, but at the end of the day you still need the filter.
Still, being a chemical engineer and aware of carbon filtration process from the standpoint of purifying both water and air streams contaminated (so to speak), I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be too difficult to come up with a competitive filter.
Either way - without clean water life don't last long - so I advise all to get them something facilitating clean water even if just for you family alone.

It's crazy how they're focusing on one brand and size.
I used to follow a group that tested many filters of different kinds in their effectiveness of getting rid of fluoride.
Fyi, Berkey is not good at filtering out fluoride despite claiming so.
That's why I got an RO filter instead for around the same price.
