A few years ago while chanting Hindu mantras I learned in a yoga teacher training, I did a search for Christian mantras, wondering if there were any, and to my surprise, discovered Maranatha. It resonated with me immediately.
Bible Dictionaries - Easton's Bible Dictionary - Maranatha
( 1 Corinthians 16:22 ) consists of two Aramean words, Maran'athah, meaning, "our Lord comes," or is "coming." If the latter interpretation is adopted, the meaning of the phrase is, "Our Lord is coming, and he will judge those who have set him at nought." (Compare Phil 4:5 ; James 5:8 James 5:9 .)
The name sounded familiar and then I remembered that when I was a teen, I used to buy the MaraNatha brand of almond butter in the health food store I frequented. I had no idea it had any meaning besides the product brand.
Tonight I will begin a 40-day mantra practice of Maranatha, using mala beads, so 108 repetitions. I will do this first thing in the morning and before going to sleep.
Here’s some information on Malas
I invite any of you that wishes to chant with me, to join along and comment below. Any and all suggestions are most welcome.
Wishing for Divine intervention is one thing, but actively participating in calling one in is how I am going to approach my petition. This is the first mantra that came to mind when in 2020, I felt we were engaged in spiritual warfare against an evil taking over the planet. I believe in the power of prayer, the spirit and divine light, to overcome the darkness.
Tonight I discovered this YouTube of a sung version with river sounds.
You can use a rosary if you have one or just use your fingers to count! The rosary is 50, so a little less than half as many beads as a Mala. I found this a fascinating fact when I learned it.
Thank you for those links! 🙏🏼✨🕊
I Love It!!!
